Weight Summary:

Ms. Ruby has taken the lead on the overall in week one just about a single ounce ahead of her overall male counterpart, Mr. Amethyst. They are both around 27 ounces. As far as the lead for the overall female is concerned, it is likely to be Ms. Ruby for awhile, as the other two females weigh significantly less and she shows no signs of slowing down. Mr. Amethyst will likely not keep the overall male lead with Mr. Emerald and Mr. Onyx close behind. The males are likely to have many lead changes to come.

The big gainer of the week is Ms. Ruby as she has more than doubled her birth weight in week one. Mr. Gold was her male counterpart with a near doubling of his birth weight.

Mama’s Health:

Mama is doing well and eating well, however it is difficult keeping her ahead of the growth curve of the eight pups. We are likely to start some supplemental feedings sometime in the middle of week two or maybe slightly later. She is very happy being with her pups.

Puppy Development:

Most of the puppies are trying to walk and a couple already are. They are regulating their own body temperatures and are way ahead of the curve. We pulled all external heat sources on day two. When it comes to temperature, they are the fastest Goldador litter we have ever had at reaching this milestone, as they run away from any heat source we have near them. We are still keeping their environment warmer than room temperature and monitoring them all closely. Puppies are not experiencing any fear when exploring with or without Mama near by. Mama has no apprehension about us handling her pups in any way. The pups are already to where most of them don’t mind being handled by humans. Wiggling and noise has gone way down, has been short lived, or has been non-existent when being weighed, having their collars changed, or being given neurostimulation. They actually enjoy the human touch. Sense of smell for this litter is also ranks very high relative to past litters. Sight and sound are still to come for these pups. They are also a group that is fairly well advanced on urinating and defecating without the need for external stimulation. They have been doing those, some of them on day one, on their own without any help.

Overall, these pups are on par with or greater than prior Goldador litters when it comes to fitness and vigor.

Looking Ahead:

We are looking forward to the pups opening their eyes soon.

Pictures or video will likely be out on Thursday or Friday of this week. Whenever a milestone is achieved, will will post a photo or two.

Have a good week and God bless.

For the next few days, we will give both Ms. Topaz and Ms. Pearl a little time with Mama by themselves just to make sure they are getting what they need. The numbers are good for them and they are gaining weight within the normal range however, relative to the rest of the litter, Topaz is averaging the lowest gains and Pearl was born the smallest puppy. We would like to see narrower distributions for weight and weight gain for the litter as a whole at this time.
