Data is available for week 9 for other litters but there is enough of it missing that I chose not to include it for comparison purposes this week. If it matters, the percentage gain would be somewhere around 15% and the average weight would be somewhere near an even 11 pounds. As a reminder, this is the last week for weights being posted.
The overall is now finished but really, it was finished long ago. Mr. Onyx. This litter went off the charts this week as can be seen in the above precentage gains, lead by Mr. Emerald and Ms. Sapphire.
One of the peculiar conclusions we came to was that both Mr. Emerald and Ms. Sapphire only ate to satiety and then stopped. It is a peculiar conclusion in one regard because Mr. Emerald generally eats first of all the pups and is generally the boss of this litter. The conclusion was incorrect or incomplete on our part. You will note the huge gains this week for both of those pups. We decided to isolate those two together for feeding this week and what we found was that they never finished a meal in one sitting. They both would eventually eat everything but they are both grazers. They will eat just as much if not more than the other pups. They just don’t do it over two sittings in a day.
Development
These are, of course, just snapshot observations in time with us in our environment.
The litter loves to splash around in water. There’s no swiming at this age of course. By all appearances, water sports might be a thing for all these pups if you want to continue with the water play. Below is this litter’s half-sister, Graffiti. Puppies range from a moderate to high ball drive, however their retrieval instincts are more to a medium. For rags and tugs, the drive is extremely high, boot and pants legs beware.

The litter is not unfriendly to novel people. None are fearful. They are not outgoing either. No Golden Retrievers here as it should be. However, with Mr. Emerald, Mr. Onyx, and Ms. Pearl, once someone engages them, then they enjoy the interaction. But none of them actually seek out other people for attention. The other two (Mr. Ruby and Ms. Sapphire) are really indifferent, at least they are at this stage. They are Laekens afterall and this is what the breed is supposed to be as is perfectly described in the breed standard.
The puppies have met cats, chickens, and other dog breeds. It has been with indifference but tolerance and good manners.
When it comes to noise, the puppies have shown no fear to loud noises like mowers, gunshots, cityscape noises (sirens), loud motorcycles, etc. They are really solid here. They have been through quite a few rough storms without being disturbed.
They have been the best car traveling litter we have ever had. Can’t say enough about this. Not only do they travel quietly, but also cleanly.
They are also clean in their crates as well. We only use crates for travel, feeding, and sleeping at night, otherwise they are in supervised excersize areas.
To this date, there have been no commercial dog foods given to the litter. There has been some small amounts of pizza crust and other treats when out socializing the pups,. Their indifference to other people in public eateries is nice because there is no table begging or any of that behavior. But maybe that’s because they get steak at and lamb at home and the eatery just can’t compete.
We are still looking for the right place for Mr. Emerald. Maybe it’s right here with us but we shall see in time. He needs to go where a dog with his working talents can be utilized.
That’s about it for this week. We are looking forward to seeing all of you again at puppy pickup/delivery. There will be more posts coming concerning the pups.
Have a good week and God bless.
Update: Some slight edits to this post. I just didn’t like it’s presentation of the litter letter so I changed that and I needed to make a note about the weight of the pups.

Weights for the check-up were recorded as follows (all in pounds).
| Puppy | Weight |
| 1 – Mr. Ruby | 11.6 |
| 2 – Mr. Emerald | 10.6 |
| 3 – Ms. Sapphire | 10.6 |
| 4 – Mr. Onyx | 12.8 |
| 5 – Ms. Pearl | 11.0 |
I think these weights are a bit on the high side but we will see come Monday’s weigh-in (the last one for this litter). It’s possible with the “puppy wiggle factor” or just differences in scales that they came out higher than what I would expect.
Microchips were all verified to be working.
